Fact-Checking Procedure
- Dates, figures, statements and statistics are verified against primary sources such as wire services, government agencies and official announcements by the parties involved before publication.
- Information that cannot be confirmed against a primary source is either presented as being at the reporting stage, with the phrasing that it is reported to be so and the source named, or left out.
- Second-hand quotation of an individual’s remarks obtained by another outlet is not used in quotation marks. Such material is introduced in summary form with the source stated.
- The Reference Links section at the end of each article lists only pages whose contents have actually been checked.
On Neutrality
Neutrality here does not mean taking neither side. It means showing that there is a case to be made on both the supporting and the opposing side, and then presenting the realistic points at issue. The site belongs to no political party, organization, company or religion. Headlines and writing that inflame crisis or conflict are avoided; the aim is an article that lets the reader understand the structure and think calmly.
How Overseas Reactions Are Selected
Comments from overseas forums are chosen so that the balance of praise, analysis and criticism does not depart significantly from the actual tone of the thread. Extreme or discriminatory expressions and personal attacks are not taken up. Translations aim to read naturally while preserving the nuance of the original.
Use of AI
Sekahan uses AI to assist with research, drafting and translation. The argument, the structure and the final editorial responsibility for an article rest entirely with the editor. Facts are checked against primary sources, and the completed draft is put through a critical review by a separate AI system before the editor gives it a final check and publishes it.
Corrections Policy
When an error comes to light after publication, the text is corrected promptly. Significant corrections affecting an article’s conclusion or interpretation are noted within the article itself. Articles written to last, where later developments change the situation, are updated by appending to the body text.
