Sekahan: Japan Reacts is the English edition of Sekahan, an independent Japanese news-analysis blog. Every article reads a news story in three layers: what was reported, how people abroad reacted, and the geopolitical or structural background behind it.
In an era when social media pushes readers into separate camps, the aim is to place differing viewpoints side by side so that the world can be understood from more than one angle.
What the English Edition Offers
The English edition is not a mechanical translation of the Japanese site. Its purpose is to make Japanese-language primary sources readable in English: government releases, official statistics, white papers, corporate filings and Japanese wire reports that rarely surface in English coverage. Many articles also carry a Japanese Reactions section, where posts from Japanese social media are translated into English with context on the mood behind them, so that readers outside Japan can see how a story is actually being received inside the country.

Editorial Principles
Sekahan is an independent personal publication with no affiliation to any organization, political party, company or religion. It does not offer expert analysis; it organizes and presents overseas news and debate from the standpoint of an ordinary reader. Reactions from abroad are included precisely so that the site does not become one person’s slanted opinion.
The site was started out of concern about the division and polarization that social media has accelerated. The same event looks different depending on the country and the position of the person describing it. Making those differences visible, supplying the background knowledge they rest on, and creating room to think calmly is the goal.
- Primary sources first: government announcements, statistical releases and major media originals are checked, and sources are cited.
- Translation policy: comments from Reddit and other overseas forums are rendered with their original nuance intact.
- Both sides presented: on contested topics, multiple positions are described and the judgment is left to the reader.
- Consumer protection: products or services that are clearly disadvantageous to consumers, such as rip-off or multi-level schemes, are not featured.
- Transparency: advertising and affiliate content is disclosed, and the reader’s interest comes first.
Use of AI
AI tools are used for part of the translation, structuring and image generation work. All final verification of content, checking of translation accuracy and adjustment of wording is done by the editor. AI is used as an assistive tool, and articles are published on human judgment and responsibility.
Article Structure
Articles generally follow this order: the news itself, background explanation, reactions from social media abroad, analysis and conclusion, related books, and source links. Short takes appear first on note, with the full version published here.
Publishing Frequency
The site is updated essentially every day, following international and domestic news. Significant follow-ups and corrections are appended at the end of the relevant article with the date of the update noted.
